2 Easy Ways To Flip Or Mirror Text In Canva
Flipping text in Canva directly isn’t possible in the same way as flipping images or photos or even rotating text, because Canva currently doesn’t provide a direct tool to flip text.
The good news is that there are workarounds to achieve this effect and you will learn the ways on how to flip text in Canva in this article.
Ways To Flip Or Mirror Text In Canva
You can flip, mirror, or reverse the orientation of your text in Canva in two ways. One way is to make use of an online text generator that helps flip your text in various directions. Then, copy and paste the flipped or mirrored text to Canva.
The second way is to first save or export the Canva text to an image, upload it back to Canva as an image, and use the Flip function in Canva to mirror the direction of the text.
Whichever you use depends if you need the text in editable format or don’t mind using it as an image. Here are the various ways on how to flip text in Canva:
Method 1: Using Reverse Text Generator
There are various flip-text generators online that are free and truly flip any text you have.
However, those that can be found on the first page of Google Search aren’t too helpful. I’ve tried many of them and though they mirror my text, they changed the font style.
When I copied and pasted it to Canva, I couldn’t change the font to something else because the text would look strange.
This is due to the Unicode text these generators are using to flip the text. They work fine on the web, but you may not be able to style them to your liking in Canva.
Good thing that there is one Reverse Text Generator that works.
Here are steps on how to use it to flip text to be used in Canva:
Step 1: Enter Text In Generator
We will have to rely on another tool to flip your text. This can’t be done within Canva, but yes, we will come back to Canva with the text completely flipped later.
First, open your web browser and go to Search Engine Reports — Reverse Text Generator.
Once you’re on the website, find the text box at the bottom where you can input the text you want to reverse or flip.
Type or paste the text you want to flip into this box.
Step 2: Flip The Text
Above the text box, you will typically find options for how you want to reverse your text. These options can include reversing the text, flipping it upside down, or both.
Select the appropriate option based on how you want the text to appear in Canva. For a mirrored effect, you would typically choose the option that reverses the text. Try the button Reverse Text or Flip Text.
Step 3: Paste Flipped Text In Canva
Once the tool has processed your input, it will display the reversed or flipped version of your text.
Highlight and copy this reversed text by selecting the text, then, right-click on your cursor and select the Copy option from the pop-up menu.
Open Canva and go to the design where you want to use the flipped text.
Add a text box to your design by selecting the Text tool.
Paste the reversed text into this text box by selecting the sample text, right-click and select the Paste option in the pop-up menu.
Step 4: Adjust the Text in Your Design
You can now adjust the font, size, color, and positioning of the flipped text in your Canva design to match your layout and design needs.
Once you are satisfied with how the flipped text looks in your design, you can finalize your design.
Download or share your design as needed.
Method 2: Using A Text Image
This method involves exporting or publishing your text as an image. If you are not on Canva Pro, you can’t do this and have the text image without background or maintain its transparent background.
In this method, you will learn how to remove the background from the text image even if you have a free Canva account.
Here are the steps to use a text image to flip text in Canva:
Step 1: Convert Text to an Image
First, add the text you want to flip to your Canva design. Select the Text tool from the sidebar, choose your desired font and style, and type your text.
Before flipping the text, you need to convert it into an image. You can do this by taking a screenshot of your text. Make sure the text is visible and the background doesn’t interfere with the text in the screenshot.
If you are a Canva Pro user, you can publish or export the text as an image with a transparent background.
Select the Share button on the top right-hand corner.
Click on the Download option.
Select PNG in the File Type section and select the Transparent Background option. Then click on the Download button.
If you are on the Canva free version, simply download the PNG file.
Step 2: Remove Background
On a Mac, locate the file you’ve saved on your computer, and right-click the thumbnail of the PNG file. In the pop-up menu, select the Quick Actions option and select Remove Background.
You can do this if you are using the macOS Ventura and iOS 16 versions.
As for Windows, you can also remove the background of your text image by going to the toolbar. Then, choose Picture Format > Remove Background. Or Format > Remove Background.
Double-click the thumbnail of your image to check that the background is properly removed.
Step 3: Flip Text Image In Canva
Next is to bring the text image back to Canva so that you can flip it. You can do this by clicking on your text image thumbnail on your computer and dragging it to your Canva design page.
Once the image is uploaded, add it to your canvas by clicking once on the image in the Uploads section.
Now, you can flip it like any other image. Click on the uploaded text image to select it, then click on the Flip button in the top toolbar and choose Flip Horizontal for a mirror effect or Flip Vertical for an upside-down effect.
Resize and reposition the flipped text image as needed to fit into your design.
Since the text is now an image, you won’t be able to edit the text directly. If you need to change the text, you’ll have to repeat the process with the updated text.
This method is a bit roundabout, but it’s a useful trick to achieve the flipped text effect in Canva.
Final Thoughts: Flipping Or Mirroring Text In Canva
We all love Canva for how easy it can be as compared to Adobe software, yet it’s frustrating that you can’t flip text with it! Could be too simple I supposed. But maybe there will be an update to provide this function in the future.
