In this guide, you’ll get to learn how to professionally change your Canva frame size easily — both changing only the frame size and changing the frame size with the image.

Can You Change Canva Frame Size?

Yes — You can change your frame size to as big as 8000 x 3125 px or as small as 40 x 40 px. As you change it, Canva will automatically adjust your image size to match the proportion of the frame.

By default, no matter what your frame size will be, Canva will increase or reduce your image size so that the whole frame will be covered by your image.

Once your image is attached to the frame, there is no way to change the frame size alone. If you click on it, you will automatically select both the frame and image together at the same time. Which means both the frame and image sizes will change.

But now the question remains: If you can change a frame size in Canva, how do you do that?

How To Resize Canva Frame?

The easiest way to resize your frame in Canva is first to set the frame size before adding an image to the frame.

Then, drag any of the corners of the frame away from the frame to make it bigger with a maximum of 8000 x 3125 px, or towards the center of the frame to make it smaller with a minimum of 40 x 40 px.

If you wish to change the size much more accurately to the pixel, click on the frame once. Then, select the Position button on the top menu.

Next, in the slide-out panel from the left, go to the Advanced section and change the Width and Height values.

Here are the various ways to change your frame size in Canva.

Method 1: Resize Frame and Image

In this method, you will change the frame size after attaching the image to your frame. Use this method if you want your image size to change together with the frame size.

Step 1: Attach Image

The first step is to fit an image into the Canva frame. To do this, you can use any Canva element or upload your own photo and videos to attach to the frame.

In this example, I will take an image from the Canva library of photos.

From the Photos section, click on an image, and at the same time drag it to the Canva design canvas and drop it into the frame.

You will know that it is the right time to drop the image into the frame when you see the image blurring and a duplicate is created inside the frame.

Release your cursor to drop the image into the frame completely.

With the image already attached to your Canva frame, click on it once and bring your cursor to any of the corners or borders of the box surrounding the frame.

To make the size bigger, click and drag the corner away from the center of the frame. To make the size smaller, click and drag the corner toward the center of the frame.

You will see that both the image and frame size are changing together.

Method 2: Resize Frame Only First

Sometimes, you want to change the frame size, but don’t want to change the size of the image. In this case, you will have to crop your image. Here are the steps:

Step 1: Set Frame Size

Adjust the size of the frame by clicking on the frame once, then use your cursor to click and drag any corner of the frame to make it smaller or bigger. When you do that, both the frame and image will resize together.

Step 2: Crop Image

After you have resized the frame and set it to the size you want, the next thing is to resize the image. There are times when you may not want the image size to change as much as the frame.

If you have made your frame smaller, the image will also become smaller with the frame. In order to make the frame smaller and the image the same size as before, you will have to crop the image by making it bigger after resizing the frame.

In this example, I’ve made the frame size smaller, which means I will have to resize the image and make it bigger, cropping more of the image. To do that, double-click on your image and frame.

You will see the original image appear with the part of the image bolder inside the frame than outside of the frame.

Next, bring your cursor to any corner of the image and adjust it. You can make it bigger than before and change the position such that the subject is in a different place in the frame.

Method 3: Detach Image

Since you can’t change the frame size when the image is attached to the frame, one way is to detach it from the frame first before changing the frame size.

To detach the image from the frame, click on the frame and image, then select the More option.

In the drop-down menu, select Detach Image.

The image in the frame disappears and the original image appears outside the frame.

Next, adjust your frame size to the size you want.

After that, click on your image and drag it to the frame to attach it back again.

Any image area outside the circle will be cropped away. You can adjust what the cropped area is showing by double-clicking the image and dragging the image to the position you want.

By default, Canva would help you fit the picture in a frame when you attach it for the first time. You can also detach the picture to reset the picture size and re-attach it to fit the picture in the frame.

To detach the picture from the frame, right-click on the framed picture and select Detach Image from the pop-up menu.

Drop the video or photo into the frame by releasing your cursor. Canva will automatically make sure your image fills or covers your frame by resizing the image for you. In other words, your Canva image is cropped by the frame.

If your frame border was created with the Frames function in the Edit Image section, to change the border, click on your image once. Then select the Edit Image button, go to the Frames section, and select See All.
