Ways To Group Elements On Canva Desktop

The easiest way to group on Canva is to click and drag your cursor over all the Canva elements you want to group. Then, click on the Group button in the Floating Toolbar just above your Canva design.

To ungroup and have your elements separated, click on the grouped elements once to select it, then select the Ungroup button in the Floating Toolbar.

Method 1: Floating Toolbar

In this method, there’s no need to look further than your Canva design canvas to group your elements. Here are the steps to follow:

Step 1: Select Elements

Select the elements you want to group by holding down the Shift key while clicking on the elements at the same time.

This will ensure the elements you want to select will remain selected even after you click on the other elements.

Step 2: Select Group

Once you have two or more elements selected, you will see a Floating Toolbar appear on the top of your Canva design, within the canvas.

Click on the Group button and all elements you’ve selected will now be within one group or one box.

Method 2: Keyboard Shortcut

If you want to group quickly, you can use your keyboard to do so right after selecting your elements. Here are the steps to follow:

Step 1: Select All Elements

If you wish to group everything on your Canva design canvas, the first thing is to select all elements. You can do that with a keyboard shortcut by pressing Command + A on a Mac.

Or Ctrl + A on Windows.

Step 2: Press Keyboard Shortcut

With all elements selected, you can group them together by pressing the keyboard shortcut Command + G on a Mac.

Or Ctrl + G on Windows.

Method 3: Drop-Down Menu

There are situations where the Floating Toolbar just doesn’t appear. In this case, you can select the Group function in the drop-down menu. Here are the steps to follow:

Step 1: Select Elements

First, select the elements you want to group together by picking each of them individually and holding down the Shift key at the same time.

If you wish to select all elements to be grouped together, you can use your cursor to click once outside the Canva design canvas, then drag the cursor making sure it touches every element on your canvas once.

This picks up or selects all elements in one action.

Next, with the elements selected, right-click your cursor on any of the selected elements. Do not right-click outside the elements as that will deselect your elements.

In the drop-down menu, select Group.

Next, click once on all the other elements you wish to select. Lastly, scroll the bottom menu to the left and click on the Group button to group the selected elements together.

Open up your design in the Canva mobile app and click on one of the elements you want to include in the group.

If you select an element by mistake and wish to deselect it, click on it another time and it will not be selected.

Once you’ve selected the elements you wish to group, go to the bottom of the screen and scroll the options in the More section to the left, until you see the Group button.

Click on the Group button once and your selected elements will be grouped together. The Group button changes to Ungroup.

Or, click on the area outside the Canva design canvas once, this closes the bottom More Options bar and allows the Floating Toolbar to appear. Select Ungroup in the Floating Toolbar and the elements will be separated.

Too few elements selected

Grids Are Selected

If you find there is no Group option in Canva, it could be because you are trying to group grids together. Multiple grids can be selected, but grids cannot be grouped together in Canva.
